The inception of this coat commission has a really special story. I donated a voucher to help raise money to fund some life prolonging treatment for my dearest friend Cheri. Her amazing colleagues at Just Eat, family and friends all joined together in an epic fundraising effort for ‘Cheri’s Breast Friends Ball’. It was an unbelievable night for Cheri and her family and was humbling to see the support that team spirit can conjure, which I know was a huge boost to Cheri and her family at that time.
Anne purchased the voucher and subsequently booked an appointment to meet. When we met for the first consultation Anne knew that she would like me to design her a winter coat. She had never been through this process before. During the appointment Anne shared some vague ideas of what she was looking for, she has recently had a baby so I wanted to introduce a practical element to the design.
Anne shared on Google that she really felt I got the gist of what she wanted and when I presented the design she loved my suggestions of colours and the useful / stylish exaggerated patch pockets I featured in the design.
The next stage we mocked the coat up in calico which is called a toile; this is to test fit and all elements of the design before we made the coat.
The coat was made from a pale grey luxurious wool and mohair blend which was lined with a vibrant red lining. We used the red as an accent on the belt which is fixed at the back of the coat and can be tied or trailed in various ways depending on if Anne wants to wear it casually or to a more formal event.
The end result was stunning and Anne looks incredible wearing it and I am sure it will be a go to piece for her for many years to come.
